This is the 2015 Operation Inherent Resolve cruise patch created by CVN-71 and CVW-1 along with the other squadrons in Carrier Air Wing (CVW) One. It shows a SKULL with a lightning bolt through his eye socket with the Middle East countries in the background and says "CUSTOS VMFA-251 CAELORUM" along the bottom. This patch does not come with velcro attached.

This is the 2018 'DEPLOYMENT' cruise patch created by the VFA-11 'Red Rippers' in conjunction with the other squadrons in Carrier Air Wing (CVW) One. It shows an EAGLE with a bomb being released from it's left claw while holding a TRIDENT in it's right claw. The eagle has targeted IRAQ (as seen by the flag). This patch does not come with velcro attached.

Callsign "RIPPER", the VFA-11 Red Rippers transitioned from the F-4Js to the F-14A Tomcat in 1980 to the F/A-18 Hornet currently. They were originally designated as VF-43 in September 1950, then redesignated in February 1959. They adopted the squadron insignia of the original VF-11 which was decommissioned the day prior, but even though they carry on the tradition of the insignia, they do not carry the original VF-11 lineage which dates back to February 1927.
