The 'Sunliners' of VFA-81 operate the F/A-18C out of NAS Oceana, VA after having moved up from NAS Cecil Field, FL. They originally operated the A-7 Corsair until transitioning to the Hornet in February 1988. While operating onboard the USS Saratoga with CVW-17 during the Persian Gulf conflict, the Sunliners were the only fixed-wing USN squadron to score aerial victory when they shot down 2 MiG-21s while enroute to their target. They then continued to the target, demonstrating the Hornets dual-role capability.

Based out of NAS Cecil Field, FL, the Marauders of VFA-82 converted from the A-7 in July 1987 and became the first Fleet squadron to be equipped with McDonnell Douglas' F/A-18C Hornet Strike Fighter. They were assigned to the USS America (CV-66) and participated in Desert Storm. Since Cecil Field closed, they moved to and are currently stationed at MCAS Beaufort, SC.

Based out of NAS Cecil Field, FL, the Marauders of VFA-82 converted from the A-7 in July 1987 and became the first Fleet squadron to be equipped with McDonnell Douglas' F/A-18C Hornet Strike Fighter. They were assigned to the USS America (CV-66) and participated in Desert Storm. Since Cecil Field closed, they moved to and are currently stationed at MCAS Beaufort, SC.

The "Rampagers" of VFA-83 flew the A-7 Corsair out of NAS Cecil Field, FL for many years before transitioning to the F/A-18C Hornet in February 1988. They are attached to CVW-17, participating in Desert Storm from the USS Saratoga (CV-60), then deployed in summer '96 aboard the Big "E" (CVN-65). The Rampagers also transitioned from NAS Cecil Field to the Master Jet Base NAS Oceana, VA.

Based out of NAS Oceana, VA flying the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, the Golden Warriors of VFA-87 fly as part of Airwing 8 onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). They were established in Feb 1968 and took the Hornet in May 1986. They participated in Desert Storm. Based out of NAS Oceana, VA flying the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, the Golden Warriors of VFA-87 fly as part of Airwing 8 onboard the USS Enterprise (CVN-65). They were established in Feb 1968 and took the Hornet in May 1986. They participated in Desert Storm. This is the small desert version of the squadron patch.

Based out of NAS Lemoore, CA flying the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, they were established in March 1952. They participated in Desert Storm in 1991 with CVW-11 and the USS Lincoln (CVN-72). They now fly from the deck of the Carl Vinson (CVN-70).

Based out of NAS Lemoore, CA flying the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, they fly with Airwing 11 onboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). This is the current version of their squadron patch.
