The VF-2 'Bounty Hunters' are well known around the world and have accomplished many "interesting" claims, of which are intercepting a SU-15 "Flagon", MiG-23 "Flogger", "Bear" and "Badger" bombers during a 1986 USS Ranger West coast cruise. They also logged the USS Ranger's 260,000th trap.

The 'Vampires' of VX-9 were established as VX-5 in June 1957 and are located at NAWC China Lake, CA. They fly a multitude of aircraft out there. The playboy bunny patch with VX-4 or even VX-9 patch will become quite the commodity soon. As of 01OCT04 VX-9 DET in Point Mugu CA was disestablished. This was their aircraft triangle patch.

Callsign "RIPPER", the VF-11 Red Rippers transitioned from the F-4Js to the F-14A Tomcat in 1980. They were originally designated as VF-43 in September 1950, then redesignated in February 1959. They adopted the squadron insignia of the original VF-11 which was decommissioned the day prior, but even though they carry on the tradition of the insignia, they do not carry the original VF-11 lineage which dates back to February 1927. This is the aircraft triangle patch worn on the right shoulder of the aircrews.

The 'Freelancers' of VF-21 were established in March 1944 as VF-81. After several redesignations, they eventually received their final designation in July 1959. They flew the F-4N Phantoms until receiving their Tomcats in November 1983. They were the first Tomcat squadron to reach the Gulf for Operation Desert Shield, but left before the Conflict began. This is the aircraft triangle for their Tomcat patch.

This is the "Felix Rules" aircraft triangle shoulder patch for the VF-31 "Tomcatters" out of NAS Oceana, VA. It is worn on the right shoulder sleeve of the flightsuit by the aviators in the squadron. This is one of the last VF-31 aircraft triangles made.

This is the aircraft triangle for VF-31. The "Tomcatters" are the second oldest Navy fighter squadron dating back to VF-1B on July 1935. They flew the F-4J Phantoms until transitioning to the F-14D Tomcat in January 1992. They pioneered the use of the TARPS pod for reconnaissance missions and participated in the Lebanon and Syrian conflicts, the latter of which they were engaged by hostile AAA and missile fire.

They participated in Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and claim to be the last Navy aircrew over Baghdad. This is their last aircraft patch created to commemorate the end of the Tomcat with the dates 1974-2005.

The 'Starfighters' of VF-33 flew the F-14A Tomcat before being decommissioned. Established in October 1948, they were originally known as the 'Tarsiers' until the mid-80s. They transitioned from the F-4 Phantom to the F-14 Tomcat in 1981. They flew in operations against Libya, and Desert Storm onboard the USS America with CVW-1. This was their "STARFIGHTERS" aircraft triangle created when they switched from the "TARSIERS" to this name.

This is the aircraft triangle patch for the "Black Aces" of VF-41 that operated the F-14A out of NAS Oceana, VA. Callsign "Fast Eagle", they were established in September 1950 and transitioned from the F-4Ns in April 1976 to their current platform. In August 1981, the Black Aces downed 2 Su-22 "Fitter" fighters after being attacked during an exercise. They participated in several exercises and flew from the decks of several carriers. They also shifted to the USS Lincoln (CVN-72) for 'cleanup' operations at the end of Desert Storm. They currently are with CVW-8 and have transitioned to the F/A-18F Hornet out of NAS Lemoore, CA.

The Bedevilers of VF-74 flew the F-14B Tomcat out of NAS Oceana, VA, but have since been decommissioned. They began flying the Tomcat in 1983, flying against Libya in 1986 in Operation Prairie Fire (March) and Operation El Dorado (April) during their Med Cruise. They also participated in Operation Desert Storm before going the way of the Doo-doo Bird. This is their aircraft triangle worn on the right shoulder of the flight suit.

The original "Jolly Rogers" were from VF-84, but have an interesting squadron history. They were initally designated as VA-86 on 1 July 1955, but were redesignated to VF-84 on the same day! They were the second squadron to bear the VF-84 designation and bore the proud "Skulls and Crossbones" as their markings. They flew the F-4N Phantoms before transitioning to the F-14A Tomcat, but were decommissioned in the early '90s. They were also the squadron used in the Seagal movie, "Executive Decision", flying intercepts off the coast of Key West.

Callsign "GUNFIGHTER", the Grim Reapers of VF-101 are the only training squadron for the F-14 Tomcat now, and are located on the East coast at the Master Jet Base, NAS Oceana, VA. This is the Tomcat aircraft patch worn on the right flight suit sleeve.
