This is the color version of the "Sea Control Wing - Pacific Fleet" patch for the 4 remaining West Coast S-3B Viking squadrons.

This patch was created by hand in the Phillipines to have the authentic "look & feel" of the WWII squadron that flew antisubmarine missions. I don't have much history on them, though.

The "Vidars" of VS-22 fly the S-3B out of NAS Jacksonville, FL. They were established in May 1960 as part of CVW-3 aboard the USS Kennedy (CV-67) and participated in Operation Desert Storm. They were the first S-3 squadron to wear "kill" markers for 2 Iraqi radar stations destroyed by bombing.

Flying the S-3B Viking, the Sea Control Squadron (VS) 29 Dragonfires, NAS North Island, Calif., are assigned to Carrier Air Wing 11 and operate aboard Carl Vinson (CVN 70). Like other VS squadrons, they form a vital part of the carrier air wing. This is a reproduction patch.

This patch is from the VS-29 'Dragonfires'. Individuals were recognized during quarters with having discovered and preventing an unsafe sitution from taking place preventing an injury or aircraft loss. In most cases, the Skipper also refers to this this individual as the Safety Pro of the week/month. Although mainly awarded to the enlisted ground pounders, it's has also been given to the Flight crews on occasion.

The 'DragonFires' fly the S-3A Viking out of NAS North Island, CA. They participated in the Persian Gulf conflict by maintaining the carrier's antisubmarine effort.

This is the 40th Anniversary commemoration patch for the "DragonFires", which was established in April 1960. They currently fly the S-3A Viking aboard the Carl Vinson with Airwing Eleven. They participated in the evacuation of the Subic Bay naval base after the Mt. Pinatubo eruption and maintained sea patrols in the Persian Gulf following the Gulf Conflict.
